Large, Handcrafted and Signed Vintage Cathy McLain Sterling Silver and Natural Gemstones Pin or Brooch. The main stone appears to be a piece of amethyst geode, in cross-section.
The brooch measures approximately 2 and 1/4 inches high, by approximately 2 and 1/16 inches wide. (Included you'll find a US Quarter in the photographs, for the measurement-challenged and ruler-averse.) Locking pinback. Not marked as to content, but acid tested as solid Sterling silver, and hand signed on the back, "McLain". Weight is approximately 15.6 grams, which includes the stone weight, of course.
This brooch is in very nice vintage condition. It will have the expected surface scratches and possibly tiny dings to the silver from normal wear. No damage visible to the stones, though both are natural and somewhat rough, with surface irregularities and internal fissures. Hand polished, but it may need further attention, especially to the back. There is also a small acid test mark on the back, which lightened with polish, but needs further work. The pin back works fine, and the pin seems straight and sharp.
