The ring is approximately a size 7, but sizeable within limits by your jeweler. The amethyst face measures just over approximately 1/2 of an inch, or about 13 millimeters high and wide, by just over approximately 1/4 of an inch, or about 6.5 millimeters, deep, for an estimated carat weight of about 8.51 carats. The ring sits proudly atop the finger, projecting just over approximately 5/16 of an inch, or about 8 millimeters. The band measures about 1/8 of an inch, or around 3.17 millimeters, wide. (Included please find a US Quarter in the photographs, for the measurement-challenged and ruler-averse.) The ring is stamped, "14K", inside the band, unsigned. Also acid tested as solid 14K gold. Weight is approximately 6.5 grams, which includes the stone weight, of course.
This is an antique piece, which has been worn and enjoyed. There will be the expected surface scratches, dings, and patina to the gold from age and normal wear. No large chips or cracks to the stone, but there are a few tiny flea bite chips, scratches, and general surface wear, mainly to the facet edges, visible with 10X magnification. The ring band remains pretty round and true. The stone rattles a bit when shaken and may need the prongs tightened by a jeweler to be extra safe, but the stone doesn't seem in danger of falling out of its setting, by any means. The ring has been given a basic hand cleaning, but it has not been professionally polished, and it may need further attention. Please note deliberately left great vintage patina. There is a discreet acid test mark on the back edge of the band.
An amazing, beautifully crafted vintage 14K rose gold and amethyst ring. Boldly sized, with wonderful attention to detail and delightful Victorian styling. A showstopper!
