Large, Unusual, Detailed Vintage or Antique Handcrafted and Signed Taxco, Mexican Sterling Silver and Mixed Metals Malachite, Turquoise, and Lapis Lazuli Inlay Figural Round Convex Pin Pendant.
The piece measures approximately 1 and 11/16 inches in diameter, and is just over roughly 1/8 of an inch, or approximately 3.5 millimeters, deep, not including the pinback or bale. The bale opening measures just under approximately 3/16 of an inch, or about 4.5 millimeters, wide. (Included there is a US Quarter in the photographs, for the measurement-challenged and ruler-averse.) Older previously-locking pinback and flip-up bale. Most of the stamps are light and some are partial, but the back of the piece appears to be Stamped, "Taxco Mexico", "Metales", and signed, "JCL". Also acid tested as Sterling silver.Weight is approximately 7.88 grams, which includes the stone weight, of course.
This old pendant/brooch is in pretty nice vintage condition, considering its age. It will have the expected surface scratches and dings to the silver from normal wear. No visible damage to the inlay. The pinback seems to have lost its locking mechanism, but stays in place pretty well without it, and the pin does have a bend. This is a handcrafted item which will not be perfectly symmetrical nor machine-perfect in any other sense. Hand polished, but lacking specific cleaners for brass or copper, so those portions may need attention.
A very lovely and unique handcrafted vintage Mexican Sterling silver, Copper and Brass figural pin/pendant inlaid with lapis, turquoise and malachite. A versatile piece of artisan jewelry with cultural elements and amazing natural color in a desirable collectible form.
