Large, Lovely, Detailed Vintage or Antique Handcrafted Mexican Sterling Silver and Malachite Inlay Carved Aztec Sun Face or Sun Stone Round Convex Pin Pendant.
The piece measures approximately 1 and 3/4 inches, or about 44.5 millimeters, in diameter, and is just over roughly 1/8 of an inch, or approximately 3.5 millimeters, deep, not including the pinback or bale. The bale opening measures just over approximately 1/8 of an inch, or about 3.5 millimeters, wide. (Included there is a US Quarter in the photographs, for the measurement-challenged and ruler-averse.) Older locking pinback and closed bale. All stamps are light and most are partial, but the back of the piece appears to be Stamped, "925", "Hecho en Mexico", along with what appears to be the older Eagle mark, number illegible. Weight is approximately 7.9 grams, which includes the stone weight, of course.
This old pendant/brooch is in pretty nice vintage condition, considering its age. It will have the expected surface scratches and tiny dings to the silver from normal wear. Only one visible crack in the inlay, but it's through the matrix only and does not extend across the entire panel, nor is it unstable or likely to spread. Hand polished, but it may need further attention, especially to the back side. The locking pin back works and holds securely, though the pin does have a minor bend. This is a handcrafted item which will not be perfectly symmetrical nor machine-perfect in any other sense.
A very nice handcrafted vintage Mexican Sterling silver and malachite inlaid Aztec sun face pin/pendant. A versatile old piece of jewelry with rich cultural and natural elements that make it a desired collectible.
