The pendant measures just over approximately 3 and 3/8 inches high, including the bale, by just under about 3/4 of an inch or approximately 19 millimeters, wide, and roughly 5/16 of an inch deep. The bale opening is just under about 1/8 of an inch, or approximately 3 millimeters, wide. (Included you'll find a US Quarter in the photographs, for the measurement-challenged and ruler-averse.) It is stamped, "Sterling", on the back, and signed, "LN". There is a faint double stamping opposite. The chain measures about 17 and 1/4 inches long, from end to end, and will fit at around 17 and 1/8 inches long closed. The chain is approximately 1.585 millimeters, or about 1/16 of an inch, wide. Stamped, "925", on the spring ring clasp, unsigned. Combined weight is approximately 19.59 grams, which includes the stone weight, of course.
This necklace is in good vintage condition, but will exhibit the expected surface scratches and tiny dings to the silver from age and normal wear. No visible damage to the stone, just natural inclusions and surface irregularities. The chain has no kinks or bends, and the spring ring clasp works well and holds securely. Both pieces hand polished, but may have missed tarnish in addition to the desirable patina intentionally preserved. This is handmade and will not be machine-perfect in any sense.
A very striking, beautifully crafted and unusual, vintage Navajo Sterling silver and malachite pendant necklace. The malachite has been left slightly raw and has wonderful pattern and contrast from the matrix left within. The carved details on the flower and feathers are evidence of the care taken by artisan Leander Nezzie. A fantastic piece of Native American Jewelry.
