Stunning, Unusual and Detailed, Handcrafted and Fully Hallmarked Vintage Egyptian Sterling Silver Cannetille Filigree Dangling Openwork Two-Strand Purple Cord Necklace.
The pendant portion measures approximately 4 inches high, by just over about 2 inches wide. (Included please find a US Quarter in the photographs, for the measurement-challenged and ruler-averse.) The necklace measures just under about 17 inches long, from end to end, and will fit (closed) at between approximately 15 and 1/4 and 16 and 7/8 inches in length, depending on which ring in the adjustment chain you choose to hook the clasp in.
Each strand of satin cord is approximately 3.17 millimeters, or about 1/8 of an inch, wide. Laid together, side by side, the two cords combined measure approximately 1/4 of an inch, or about 6.35 millimeters, wide. The decorative end caps each measure 1 and 9/16 inches long, by about 1/2 of an inch, or approximately 12.7 millimeters, wide at the widest point.
Stamped, "925", on the side of the hook clasp, along with the Egyptian date mark for 1965-67 and an eye of Horus maker's mark. Stamped, "925", again side of one end cap, and date marked again alongside. Weight is approximately 31 grams, which includes the cloth cord weight, of course.
This old necklace is in good vintage condition, but will have the expected surface scratches and dings from age and normal wear. The satin fabric cords have little to no fraying, but do have a couple of indented areas. Lightly hand polished, but with concern about damaging the cords, erred on the side of caution. As a result, there is significant patina remaining. This necklace was completely blackened with tarnish as well as heavily soiled to begin. This is a handcrafted item which will not be machine-perfect in any sense.
A very unique, striking and highly detailed, vintage handmade Egyptian Sterling silver filigree necklace. A true statement piece that will impress. The camera didn't do justice to this necklace. It is much prettier in person.
